Celebrity hacker

Celebrity hacker pleads guilty to charges

Alonzo Knowles stole explicit celebrity videos and unpublished film scripts

A hacker who stole explicit celebrity videos and unpublished film scripts has pleaded guilty to the charges. Alonzo Knowles also stole TV scripts and personal information, unreleased music and other content by tricking the data's owners. He managed to get hold of the files and photos by texting celebrities, telling them their accounts had been compromised and asked for their passwords so he could rectify the situation. Although the celebrities involved haven't been named, it is thought he managed to successfully scam around 130 film and TV actors, musicians and production staff and illegally access their information. The hack was uncovered only when Knowles contacted a New York radio host in December last year offering to sell him personal information and the first six episodes of a popular TV drama.
The host's executive producer alerted the Department of Homeland Security and an undercover agent set up a call with Knowles, who promised to provide "exclusive content" worth "hundreds of thousands of dollars," including copies of scripts for an unfilmed documentary and a new TV show. He also said he could provide the celebrity social security numbers, their email addresses, passports and other confidential information, plus 15 movie and TV scripts for the princely sum of $80,000 (£55,429).
The agents organised to meet the 23-year-old Bahamian in New York and, following the meeting, he was arrested. Knowles pleaded guilty to charges of criminal copyright infringement and identity theft in a New York court earlier this week and agreed to hand over the 25 unpublished scripts, stolen music and $1,900 (£1,316) in cash as part of his guilty plea. His sentencing will take place on 25 August.

Stepping into the spotlight! Madonna's daughter Lourdes Leon, aka Lola, has made her modeling debut, posing in front of the camera for her mom's pal Stella McCartney.
The 19-year-old, who has spent much of her life shying away from the public eye, agreed to take part in McCartney's latest campaign for her new perfume, Pop, because she approved of the message it was sending.
The campaign, which promotes self-acceptance and positive mutual support, is a conscious counterbalance to the potentially negative world of social media. Grimes, Kenya Kinski-Jones and Amanda Stenberg's involvement was announced previously.
“I go through this struggle myself, [where] women’s bodies have been made so public that everyone feels like they need to comment,” Leon told Vogue of the resonance she felt with Pop's be-true-to-yourself message of individuality. "I love when someone doesn’t pretend to be someone they are not," she added.
As news of her daughter's first foray into modeling broke, excited mom Madonna took to Instagram to share the first photograph to emerge from the campaign—a picture of Lourdes sporting lilac hair, a behind-the-scenes snap from the shoot.
"I miss this Beautiful Girl!" the excited Material Girl, 57, captioned the photograph. "Looking forward to seeing her very soon!"
McCartney shared another photograph from the campaign via Instagram on Friday, March 11, and used the caption to explain her relationship with, and respect for, Lola.
"So happy to have Lola on the POP team!" she captioned the photo. "Lola, who I’ve known her entire life, is at the beginning of her career as a performance artist. She’s an independent, inspirational and free-spirited young woman. Despite being born in the spotlight, she has kept her feet firmly on the ground! X Stella #POPNOW #LolaLeon," she wrote.
While things are going well for her eldest child, Lola, Madonna's family life isn't all smooth sailing right now. The performer broke down on stage last Friday, March 4, as she dedicated a song to her 15-year-old son, Rocco, who she's currently attempting to gain custody of in a battle against her ex-husband Guy Ritchie.

TV lovebirds Liz Cho and Josh Elliott chose a night out with high-powered TV pals including news queen Katie Couric to announce their engagement, MailOnline has learned.
The couple, who have kept their romance low-key for the past two years, celebrated at talent agency CAA's TV News party at Manhattan's Hudson Hotel on Monday night.
A beaming Katie, 57, was there with her new husband John Molner, and a source said: 'It was perfect timing. Liz and Josh just told people privately - there was no official announcement, but they were so happy to celebrate with close friends.'
The couple announced their engagement to friends and TV stars including Erica Hill, Ronan Farrow, CNN boss Jeff Zucker, GMA host George Stephanoupoulos, NBC's Kate Snow, Mark Halperin, MSNBC President Phil Griffin and Harry Smith.
Cho and Elliott, who are both 43, were vacationing in Europe earlier this month when Elliott proposed, reported Page Six.

According to the Page Six source: 'It’s been very low-key, and people may not have even realized she was engaged, because she’s not wearing a standard diamond engagement ring.'

Instead, it was reported that Elliott gave her a simple family heirloom gold band.
The couple met while both were at ABC--Elliott with GMA Cho at New York affiliate WABC, where she remains.
Elliott announced his departure from ABC early this year after what were widely reported as 'heated' contract negotiations between the California native and the Disney-owned network.
He now covers a range of sports at NBC.
Cho has been an anchor at WABC news since 2003.

First Take: Jim Beam is huge get for Suntory

First Take: Jim Beam is huge get for Suntory

With its purchase of the maker of the Jim Beam brand, Japan's Suntory Holdings has its eyes on both American culture — and global sales.

Bill Murray in a scene from the motion picture 'Lost in Translation': His most famous line from the film is "For relaxing times, make it Suntory time."

You can offer a toast to this mega-deal for its sheer audacity. And its cultural smarts.

With news that the Japanese whiskey and beer giant Suntory Holdings has agreed to purchase the maker of the legendary Jim Beam bourbon for $13.6 billion, another chunk of Americana falls into foreign hands. But, in this case, perhaps, ably so.

Suntory — which makes Yamazaki whiskey and Premium Malt's beer — totally gets American shtick. It was, after all, among the earliest major Asian marketers to cozy-up to American celebrities to sell stuff in Japan. Way back in the "Rat Pack" heyday of the early 1970s, no less than Sammy Davis Jr., showed up in ads for Suntory brands in Japan.
Even folks who don't have the name Suntory at the tips of their tongues, probably are familiar with actor Bill Murray, whose character in the 2003 film Lost in Translation, so perfectly depicted the image of a fading American actor seeking redemption — and a few bucks — overseas. His most famous line from the film: "For relaxing times, make it Suntory time."

Clearly, with this move, it is Suntory's time. Never mind that this deal between Suntory and Beam ranks among the biggest of 2014 so far. So eager was Suntory Holdings to get its hands on Beam Inc., that the maker of Jim Beam and Canadian Club liquor walks off with a $83.50 cash per share -- which is about 25% above Beam's closing price on Friday. Competing bids could be on tap, too. The combined company is expected to have annual liquor sales of more than $4.3 billion.

But even if Suntory has master plans to make Beam more of a global brand, the key is to not let the brand stray one iota from its American roots. The bourbon, produced in Kentucky, has been linked to some seven generations of the Beam family for more than two centuries. And, yes, Jim Beam was named for a real person -- James B. Beam, best-known for lifting the business from the ashes shortly after the end of Prohibition..

Beam, which also owns Maker's Mark bourbons, has had its own history of celebrity adulation. Even with agent 007.

During his high-flying days as James Bond, Sean Connery showed up in Jim Beam ads -- as did the venerable Bette Davis. More recently, even Leonardo DiCaprio -- a very tough get for advertisers -- has appeared for Jim Beam. All, of course, class acts. But, with its Southern roots, the Jim Beam brand's closest cultural links may be to pure American patriotism. And that's not likely to change one whit.

Jim Beam is a blue collar, "good ol' boy" bourbon, says brand guru Peter Madden. Its acquisition by a Japanese-based company poses at least some threat to that, he says.

But Jim Beam must remain the "quintessential American brand," says David Srere, co-CEO and chief strategy officer at the branding firm Siegel+Gale. "The best thing they could do is stay the hell away from changing that."

Or, perhaps, have agent 007 to answer to.

Paul Walker death

Paul Walker death

Paul Walker

 Celebrities react, investigation continues

Paul Walker's death on Saturday afternoon in a fiery car crash drew reactions from his famous costars and other celebs, and a makeshift memorial grew at the site of the Santa Clarita wreck.
The "Fast and Furious" star, 40, was killed when the 2005 Porsche Carrera GT he was a passenger in hit a tree and a concrete lamp post, exploding into flames. The driver, Walker's friend and business partner Roger Rodas, also died. The sound of the crash was audible from the car shop where Walker and others had gathered earlier in the day for a charity event, a witness told L.A. Now.
Law enforcement was still investigating how fast the car might have been going and whether drag racing might have played a role; an update was not expected until Monday. Meanwhile, people close to the Always Evolving shop -- co-owned by the actor and Rodas -- wondered to TMZ whether an automotive malfunction, specifically a steering issue, might have occurred.

"Fast" costar Tyrese Gibson, who broke down in tears at the crash site on Saturday, leaving a flower at the memorial, remembered his friend in a post on Instagram in which he wrote, "My heart is hurting so bad no one can make me believe this is real Father God I pray that you send clarity over this cause I just don't understand My heart hurts it's broken no one can convince me that this is real.... Prayer warriors please pray real hard for his only child, his daughter and family... #HeartOfAnAngel13YrsFamilyForeverWeJustCelebreatedYour40thBirthday..... My God... My God... I can't believe I'm writing this." Other costars were similarly broken-hearted over the actor, who'd also appeared in films including "She's All That," "Pleasantville" and the upcoming "Hours." "Paul was pure light," Jordana Brewster tweeted. "I cannot believe he is gone." Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson remembered Walker's family, writing, "All my strength, love & faith to the Walker family during this heartbreaking time. We find our strength.. in his light. Love you brother." Neil Patrick Harris, Alyssa Milano, Rihanna and William Shatner were among those to express their condolences, while Ludacris, who'd appeared in several "Fast" films, Instagrammed a photo of cast members at a meal together. "Your humble spirit was felt from the start," Ludacris wrote. "Wherever you blessed your presence you always left a mark, we were like brothers & our birthdays are only 1 day apart, now You will forever hold a place in all of our hearts@paulwalker legacy will live on forever.
