Lil Wayne on Black Lives Matter: 'What Is It?'

"I don't feel connected to a damn thing that ain't got nothin' to do with me," rapper says. "If you do, you crazy as shit"

Lil Wayne dismissed the Black Lives Matter movement in a controversial Nightline interview where the rapper admitted, "I don't feel connected to a damn thing that ain't got nothin' to do with me."

In the interview that premiered Tuesday night, Wayne is asked whether he regretted his comment that there is "no such thing as racism" from a Fox Sports interview. The rapper said he didn't regret the remark, and then proceeded to elucidate on his feelings about racism.

Asked his thoughts regarding Black Lives Matter, Wayne asked reporter Linsey Davis, "What is it? What do you mean?"

Following an explainer, Wayne said, "That just sounds weird. I don't even know why you put a name on it. It's not a name. It's not 'whatever, whatever.' It's somebody got shot by a policeman for a fucked up reason ... I am a young, black, rich motherfucker. If that don't let you know that America understand black motherfuckers matter these days, I don't know what it is. Don't come at me with that dumb shit, ma'am. My life matter, especially to my bitches."

While countless artists have aligned with the Black Lives Matter movement in recent years, Wayne reiterated that he remains uninvolved.

"I don't feel connected to a damn thing that ain't got nothin' to do with me. If you do, you crazy as shit," Wayne added, before taking red cloth out of his back pocket. "I'm connected to this flag right fucking here, because I'm connected. I'm a gangbanger now."

Wayne then abruptly cut the interview short, telling the production crew as he unclipped his microphone, "I ain't no fucking politician."

Elsewhere in the Nightline segment, which took three years and multiple interviews to produce, Wayne discussed his love of marijuana – "There's God, there's family, there's my kids, there's music and weed" – and what his stint in Rikers Island taught him.

"I learned a lot about people: You're all on the same level. You're all going through the same thing. Everybody wants to go home," Wayne said.

On Tuesday, Nightline shared additional footage from the Wayne interview on social media, with Wayne confronting the ABC production crew during the sit-down chat.
