Oscars Best Picture Flub 

 Warren Beatty and Faye Dunaway erroneously presented the Best Picture trophy at the 89th Academy Awards on February 26 to La La Land rather than the actual winner, Moonlight. The auditing firm Pricewaterhouse Coopers later explained that the mistake was due to an envelope mix-up.

Ariana Grande’s Manchester Concert 

 A suicide bomber killed 22 people and injured more than 500 others at the pop star’s concert at Manchester Arena on May 22. Thirteen days later, Grande returned to the stage for a televised benefit concert entitled One Love Manchester, which raised $2.6 million in donations.

Twins, Twins, Twins! 

 Madonna surprised fans in February when she announced that she adopted daughters Estere and Stella from Malawi. Then George and Amal Clooney welcomed son Alexander and daughter Ella on June 6. And Beyoncé gave birth to daughter Rumi and son Sir with Jay-Z on June 13.

Sexual Misconduct Scandals 

 Harvey Weinstein has been accused of sexual harassment or assault by more than 80 women since The New York Times and The New Yorker published back-to-back exposés in October. He denied all accusations of non-consensual sex. The scandal led to countless other women coming forward in the weeks that followed with similar allegations against powerful men in Hollywood, including Kevin Spacey and Matt Lauer.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s Engagement 

 The prince and the Suits alum announced on November 27 that they were engaged after more than a year of dating. They later appeared for a photo call and sat down for a BBC interview, in which Markle called Harry’s proposal an “amazing surprise.”

Prince William and Duchess Kate’s Third Pregnancy 

Kensington Palace confirmed on September 4 that the duchess was expecting her third child with the royal, with whom she already shares son Prince George and daughter Princess Charlotte.

Deaths in Music 

 The music world lost several legends in 2017. Soundgarden vocalist Chris Cornell died by suicide at age 52 on May 18. Linkin Park lead singer Chester Bennington, who was friends with Cornell, also died by suicide at age 41 on July 20. Tom Petty died of cardiac arrest at age 66 on October 2.

Lady Gaga’s Super Bowl Performance 

 The superstar didn’t need any special guests to rock her Super Bowl LI halftime performance at Houston’s NRG Stadium on February 5. She delivered a medley of hits such as “Bad Romance” and “Telephone.”

Kathy Griffin’s Donald Trump Photo 

 The stand-up comedian posted a picture of herself holding a fake, bloody, decapitated head that resembled the president. Trump condemned the photo shoot, tweeting that it disturbed his young son Barron. Griffin apologized but faced major backlash as she was fired from CNN’s New Year’s Eve special and investigated by the U.S. Department of Justice.

Chris Soules’ Arrest 

 The Bachelor alum was arrested near Aurora, Iowa, on April 24 after his pickup truck rear-ended a tractor trailer driven by local farmer Kenneth Mosher. The 66-year-old was pronounced dead soon after the crash. Soules pleaded not guilty to a felony charge of leaving the scene and argue that he fulfilled his legal requirements by calling 911 and waiting for paramedics to arrive. He has a trial date scheduled for January 2018.

Chuck Berry, one of rock’s principal architects, is celebrating his 90th birthday today with the announcement he will release a new album of original songs in 2017.

“I’m growing old! I’ve worked on this record for a long time. Now I can hang up my shoes!” he said in a statement released early on Tuesday.

Chuck will be his first album of new songs in 38 years. The album is a strictly local affair: it features his children Charles Berry Jr on guitar and Ingrid Berry on harmonica as well as musicians who have backed him up for more than two decades of shows at Blueberry Hill, his St Louis club in the city’s Delmar Loop neighborhood.

Martin Star Tommy Ford Dead at 52

E! News has learned that actor and comedian Tommy Ford has died.

Ford, who is best known for his role as Tommy Strawn in the '90s sitcom Martin, passed away on Wednesday after being on life support at an Atlanta hospital since Sunday due to a ruptured aneurysm in his abdomen.

"It is with great sadness that we announce the untimely passing of our beloved son, father, brother, husband, and friend Tommy Mykal Ford," his family tells E! News in a statement.

"On behalf of the family, we would like to thank everyone for their love, support and prayers. Funeral arrangements will be forthcoming. Please respect the privacy of the Ford family during our time of grief."

His public relations firm also announced the sad news on Twitter. "This evening at 4:50PM surrounded by family and close friends @BigTommyFord transitioned from this life to life eternal. #tommyford #RIP."

Upon news of his hospitalization, Martin Lawrence took to Twitter to post a photo of the pair with the message, "Prayers up for my brother @BigTommyFord and his family."

After learning of his death, Lawrence told The Hollywood Reporter, "Tommy was not only a great costar, but he was a great man and friend. He always brought with him his spirituality, a positive attitude and so much joy. I am sad the world lost a great talent and that I lost a wonderful friend. God bless him and his family."

Actress Tichina Arnold, who played Ford's girlfriend on the series, reportedly "dropped everything" to be with Ford after hearing of his hospitalization.

"She just dropped everything to fly out there. She was supposed to be on a carpet, but this is way more important. She's not the only one, the entire Martin cast is getting together to be by his side," a source told People at the time.

Arnold tells the mag, "My heart is with the family and I just hope everyone respects their privacy at this time."

Ford starred on all five seasons of Martin from 1992 to 1997, and also appeared in Harlem Nights, Across the Tracks, The Parkers and Love Ain't Suppose to Hurt: The Wedding.
